Member Spotlight: Ange Kaplan Chambers
Though she be quiet in the 5:30ams (who wouldn’t be??), don’t let it fool you. Ange is passionate, easy going, and has that dry, under-her-breath humor that you won’t wanna miss out on.
Meet Ange!
Q: How did you hear about CrossFit Renew?
A: I did a search on google maps for the CrossFIt gyms that were closest to my home, and then contacted you guys because your photos on your website showed a modern facility. Plus, it’s the closest one to my house and very easy to drive to with the least amount of turns and stoplights. Also — great parking!
Q: Do you feel like your life has improved since joining? If so, how?
A: I really like the community and how encouraging everyone is. The coaches are SUPER supportive! I feel more confident now, and am so happy to be back on my fitness track after having my kid.
Q: What have you learned about yourself since starting CrossFit (here or at your other gym)
A: I’ve gained a lot more confidence in myself and have learned that I can do anything in the world. I didn’t realize how afraid I was of my own potential and living up to it. Once I started pushing myself I realized that I could just keep leveling upwards. Staying active has become such a big part of my life that I can’t stop because it makes me feel amazing all the time. I wish there were less gender-related expectations for female-identifying people in sports because I would have been doing weight lifting a lot earlier in life. I feel like I’m built for it and I absolutely adore strong competitive female-identifying athletes.
Q: What is your ideal day off?
A: Oh man – my perfect day off is actually doing manual labor in my yard and garden. Either moving bricks from one place to another or building a retaining wall or planting new plants or laying down sod or even just sticking new cactus in the ground. I’m also kind of a night-gardener where I do my best planting at night because it’s quiet and I have the most energy (and the sun isn’t melting my skin off). I like to joke that whenever I’m digging holes at night it looks like I’m burying bodies in the front lawn (I’m not I swear!).
Q: What’s your favorite thing about being a mom?
A: I’ve never felt such an intense level of protective love before in my entire life than when I had my son. I would do anything in the entire world to make sure he’s ok and getting the tools he needs to be a successful and happy person. I also LOVE showing my son cool stuff like bugs and cookies. It’s also super fun watching him enjoy something he loves like eating cake or going down a slide.
Ange, we are glad our parking situation was the hook, but that our community and coaches reeled you in! Never leave!
