Member Spotlight: The Aimones

Ahh Drew and Gracie. Some of the sunshinest members around, and inarguably  some of the most hard working. Though they’ve been around a while, we’ll bet our ~two front teeth~ that there’s lots still to learn about them. Enjoy this month’s member spotlight, on Drew and Gracie Aimone!

Q: What brought you to Renew, and how long have you been here?

Gracie: Jamie Kampman invited me to a free week two years ago. I was skeptical and also doubtful I would like it because I was a more “running/yoga” type girl… but I actually really liked the challenge of something new and stuck with it. I dipped out for 6 months during COVID and then after Drew joined, I’ve been so committed and absolutely love how it makes me feel.

Drew: Gracie started going a couple of years ago, but I was skeptical of CrossFit.  I was going to a local gym where I spent more time hanging in the sauna than working out so I knew I needed a change. I finally went to a few community WODs  and was hooked.

Q: What is something fitness-related you’re most proud of?

Gracie: For the first time ever, on a good day, I can do RX push-ups with correct form, this is a big win for me. Also, slowly getting consistent double unders!

Drew:  I couldn’t do kipping pull-ups for a long time and felt super uncoordinated trying them. After a lot of work I finally got them down which has been so satisfying.

Q: What’s your party trick?

Gracie:  I can pop my fake front teeth out.

Drew;  I can kinda talk like Donald Duck.

Q: What’s your favorite eatery in Austin?

Gracie: Right now, it would be Red Ash, but definitely a place for a special occasion. Casual spot would be Discada food truck on the east side, they only serve one type of street taco and it’s delicious, or Biscuits in Groovy, in our neighborhood.

Drew: Veracruz Al Natural for causal, Foreign and Domestic for something nicer.

Q: What’s better, golf or CrossFit?

Gracie: CROSSFIT unless I’m watching Drew play, then I have to say golf.

Drew: Ha, it depends on the day, but I honestly enjoy CrossFit more these days despite being known as the golf guy.

And for those of you who don’t know/for more fun facts: Drew is a pro golfer. So he’s basically saying that CrossFit is way better than golf all the time. Aimones, we’re so glad you’re here. Keep up the great work!!
