Member Spotlight: Ashley Martinez and Tiara Blackwood

Member Spotlight: Ashley Martinez and Tiara Blackwood

To know Ashley and Tiara is to know sarcasm, salt, and sunshine. Ashley joined us a few years ago, and when Tiara became pregnant with their daughter, began the Rebuild program with us to stay safe and active during her pregnancy and postpartum period – and we’re so glad they did. Here’s a little glimpse into these wonderful gals:

Q: When did you join the Renew Crew, and what brought you to us? What were you doing B.R. (Before Renew)?

Ashley: I joined Renew a few years back! I used to belong to other CrossFit gyms around town but never really committed long term. I was in search of a gym that checked off more of my preferred boxes: good programming, multiple class times (to fit my nightshift zombie life), fun people and maybe some social events throughout the year. My gym shopping worked and I found Renew.

Tiara: I joined Renew when I was about 4 months pregnant. I wanted to work with Sadie because she is a prenatal and postnatal trainer! Before that, I was just making up workouts in my garage, water skiing, and rock climbing. I was nervous though to keep going as my pregnancy progressed so I knew I needed an expert!

Q: What's something that Renew has taught you about your fitness?

Ashley: It’s a marathon, not a sprint! Consistency, mobility, technique…if I want to fitness until I’m old, I need to apply these tactics to my everyday workouts. As life changes, so do my fitness goals. Renew has taught me to be a little bit kinder to myself as I roll with the punches.

Tiara: Working with Sadie has made me realize that it is important to challenge myself mentally and physically. My whole world changed while I was pregnant, and after having the baby and fitness became even more important.

Q: What do you do for work, and what do you like about your job?

Ashley: I work in a Neonatal ICU as a Registered Nurse. My job is cool. Babies are cool. Preemies, micro-preemies and sick newborns, it’s rewarding to watch them grow from little aliens into real humans. All while helping their families navigate through the most difficult times of their lives.

Tiara: I am a mental health therapist, and I like guiding others to help meet their goals. I also really like that I can do it all virtually!

Q: What's better -- beer or wine?

Ashley: Depends on the day. Depends on the mood. I like both!

Tiara: Beer!

Q: What was your favorite thing/memory/accomplishment about 2022?

Ashley: Hands down, my favorite thing about 2022 is the birth of our girl Rio!! My favorite accomplishment is that we’ve kept her alive and well for seven months now!

Tiara: My biggest accomplishment was the birth of my daughter, Rio! Second to that, placing fourth in the U.S. Water Ski Nationals when she was just 12 weeks old.

Thanks for trusting us with all your fitness needs, y’all! We absolutely love having you in the gym and as part of the Renew Crew. Never leave.
