We're going to take a look at the updated standings in a minute but first, let's take some time to celebrate those in our crew that hit a milestone this week while we ice our hands and forearms...In CrossFit, there is no bigger hurdle to clear than getting the first muscle up - be it on the bar or the rings. And we had people clearing hurdles right and left on Friday night! So we want to give a super huge shoutout first to Doug Phillips, who ripped off 10 snatches and then GRINDED for about 5 minutes before nailing that first MU!
Second, big ups to the great Zac Rosenbaum for hitting that first MU and then some! I love the little bound off the bar before he hustles back to the snatches!Lastly, the great Becky Miller. This video is awesome and hilarious because Becky starts laughing and is almost embarrassed at the attention even though everyone is super-hyped for her! At this point in most competitions, you can start to get an idea of how the leaderboard is going to finish up. That's not the case on the women's side at Renew where the Top 5 are all separated by just seven points! Thanks to her freaking killer performance on 16.3, Becky moved into a tie for second place with Paige and they both sit just one point behind Jess.
This leaderboard gets me super fired up.First, I love how balanced the top three have been through the first three WODs. All of them have won at least one workout and haven't finished lower than third in any of them. But second, I love that Becca and Becca are looming. It's still possible and even likely that there is something heavy coming in either 16.4 or 16.5. I know there were heavy cleans later in 16.2 but, realistically, that wasn't a "heavy" WOD. If 16.4 or 16.5 have heavy deadlifts then one of the Beccas is going to force their way into the top three.
The men's side looks pretty much how I thought it would look after they announced 16.3.Please forgive the very rudimentary scoreboard I had to create in Excel. Some people keep forgetting to submit their scores so I'm tracking it all by hand.
Russ, Austin, and Edsel are REALLY strong on the bar muscle up and Russ in particular, is a kind of a strategy ninja when it comes to these Open WODs. Each guy did the WOD on Friday night and established a score then each re-did the WOD at least one more time. On Monday, Russ re-did the WOD and raised the bar (no pun intended) to 90 reps. Then Austin did it AGAIN about 20 minutes later and got to 89. First, I'd like to reiterate that redoing Open WODs multiple times requires a special kind of crazy. But it was AWESOME watching those two attack this WOD and to watch them be super encouraging to each other. They both pushed each other to set the high score in the gym. Stephen Crawford jumped into the Top 5 thanks to a re-do of 16.3. He finished with 63 reps on Friday night then hit 77 when he re-did on Monday afternoon. I judged him on Monday and he look STRONG on the bar muscle ups. So if you're into watching epic sporting competitions, make sure you are paying attention these last two weeks. It will be fun to watch all these youngsters battle for the top spot. Can't wait to see what they have for us this week and can't wait to see all you guys on Friday night!Chris
