On Snatches and Surf & Turf: Meet Our Newest Coach, Tim!

On Snatches and Surf & Turf: Meet Our Newest Coach, Tim!

He’s not a man of many words, but when you show up to his class you better believe he’s got a totally unexpected, conversation-starting ice breaker up his sleeve. Check out the Q&A below and learn a little more about one of our newest coaches, Tim!

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your home life (where’d you come from, when’d you move here, etc.).

A: I was born and raised in Connecticut, lived there for 30+ years. My wife and son moved to Austin last year, the day before the Snowpocalyspe.

Q: How did you get into CrossFit?

A: My wife introduced me to CrossFit in 2011 and we’ve been training together ever since.

Q: What have you learned about yourself personally since starting CrossFit?

A: I prefer to work smarter, not harder. I like leveraging technique to promote longevity in the sport.

Q: Why (and when) did you become a CrossFit coach, and what is your favorite part about coaching?

A: I began coaching CrossFit in 2014. I enjoy seeing progress and helping someone reach their goals.

Q: What do you do outside the gym (for work or play)?

A: I enjoy going on adventures with my family — nature hikes, playing tennis, bike rides.

Q: If you had to do one movement in every workout for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Snatch

Q: What is one thing outside the gym that you’re excited about doing/seeing/accomplishing in the next year?

A: I’m excited about reaching more people through growth as a coach on virtual and social platforms.

Q: Please tell us one embarrassing story about yourself.

A: It took me three tries to get my drivers license.

Q: If you had to give a TED Talk about one topic, what would it be?

A: Mind-body connection

Q: If you had to pick a “last meal”, what would it be?

A: Surf and turf, chocolate and peanut butter dessert and cognac.

Short, sweet, to the point. That’s Tim in a nutshell. We’re so happy to have you on board, Tim! Looking forward to that TED Talk.
